Maya Moore nominated for award
INDIANAPOLIS -- Maya Moore could collect one of the few college awards she has not won -- NCAA Woman of the Year.
The former UConn basketball star has been nominated by the Big East Conference as its nominee. She is one of 142 nominees from the NCAA's three divisions up for the award. The winner will be announced Oct. 16.
Moore, a two-time national player of the year, won two national titles with the Huskies and plays for the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx.
The field will be cut down to 30 women, 10 from each division, later this month. The nine finalists will be announced in early September.
Last year's winner was Arizona swimmer Justine Schluntz. The last basketball player to win the award was Tennessee's Nkolika Anosike in 2008.
