UNC extends contracts for coaches
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina has given contract extensions through 2018 to men's basketball coach Roy Williams, women's basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell and baseball coach Mike Fox.
The school announced Thursday that Williams had received an extension through 2018 that would pay him a base salary of $325,000. But the school's board of trustees re-approved the extension during a meeting Friday morning, fixing a mistake tied to a cost-of-living provision and adjusting the base salary to $333,938.
Williams is scheduled to receive an expense allowance of $30,000 this year and $40,000 in each of the next six years. He'll receive supplemental income of between $1.35 million and $1.65 million annually.
Hatchell's base salary will be $360,000 with supplemental compensation of between $70,000 and $130,000 annually and an expense allowance of $40,000.
Fox's base salary will be $180,000 and will gradually increase until reaching $260,000 for the final three seasons. He'll also receive an expense allowance ranging from $25,000 and $50,000.
The trustees approved the adjustment just after signing off on the hiring of Tulsa's Bubba Cunningham as the school's new athletic director.
All three coaches are eligible for bonuses tied to team performance and academics.
