NEW YORK -- Florida State is opening the NCAA Division I baseball tournament at home -- as usual.

The Seminoles, ranked No. 1 a few weeks this season, are hosting a regional for the 29th time. Florida State (43-15) joins four other Atlantic Coast Conference schools selected Sunday as host sites for the 64-team tournament that starts Friday.

Miami, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Virginia also are hosts from the ACC, which also had a tournament-high five schools selected last year.

Each of the 16 host schools clinched a spot in the NCAA tournament, with the rest of the field announced by the Division I baseball committee Monday. The top eight national seeds also will be announced.

With Georgia Tech winning the conference tournament Sunday, the ACC is assured of having at least six teams in the regionals field.

The Pac-12 is second with four host schools -- Arizona, Oregon, Stanford and UCLA. The Southeastern Conference has three, with Florida, LSU and two-time defending College World Series champion South Carolina.

Also selected as hosts were Baylor, Purdue, Rice and Texas A&M.

Kyle Kallander, chairman of the Division I baseball committee, said on ESPN during the SEC title game between Vanderbilt and Mississippi State that hosts are decided by several criteria, including trying to reward regular-season performance and geographical distribution.

All of the sites are at on-campus fields, except for the regional hosted by Purdue, which will be played at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Ind., because of stadium construction. Purdue and Oregon are first-time host schools.

Eight schools -- Florida, Florida State, North Carolina, Rice, Texas A&M, South Carolina, UCLA and Virginia -- also hosted last year.

The 16 regional winners will play in the super regionals, beginning June 8. The eight winners of those best-of-three series will advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. College baseball's marquee event begins June 15 at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
