Bama AD Mal Moore hospitalized

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- University of Alabama athletic director Mal Moore was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Tuesday night for an irregular heartbeat.

"Coach Moore was admitted as a precautionary measure and is doing fine," said Dr. James B. Robinson, Moore's personal physician, in a statement released by the school.

Robinson said Wednesday's test results were normal and Moore should be released soon.

Moore, 72, has worked for Alabama since 1994 and served as the school's athletic director since 1999.

Moore was previously the offensive coordinator and quarterback's coach at Alabama. Prior to joining the Crimson Tide coaching staff, he served as an assistant in the NFL with the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was a quarterback for the Crimson Tide from 1958-62, winning a national championship under coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. He was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in May.

In his time at Alabama, he's been responsible for numerous facilities upgrades, most recently the approval of a $9 million athletic facility that broke ground this summer. He was also responsible for the hiring of football coach Nick Saban, who has won two national championships since signing with Alabama in 2007.
