GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Will Muschamp said he might have an announcement on the Gators' starting quarterback Monday.

It's possible he'll have to do it again the following Monday, and the Monday after that, and the Monday after that …

"At this time, we'll see what happens," Muschamp said. "I'm not ready to comment on that. I think we have a press conference Monday of game week. We'll see Monday. I don't know. I'll make a decision. I'm sitting on some things right now. We still have some time now."

What happens Tuesday could be the determining factor as to who gets the start for the Sept. 1 season opener against Bowling Green. Florida will have its final scrimmage of the preseason before taking a day off, then beginning game-planning for the Falcons on Thursday.

"We have to start figuring that out as we move forward," Muschamp said. "I think both guys, looking at it right now, are very even in what they want to do. I don't want to comment on today, because I want to watch the film first.

"(Offensive coordinator) Brent (Pease) and I will sit down like we have after every practice, and again the next morning to discuss where we are, what is going well, and what is not going well."

Both players struggled last season in place of injured starter John Brantley. Driskel completed 47.1 percent of his passes for 148 yards and two interceptions. Brissett completed 46.2 percent of his passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns with four interceptions.

They remained even since spring practice began. Muschamp said he wanted to see how they handled the offseason in terms of organizing workouts and throwing sessions. Both handled that well, Muschamp said, so they started preseason practices even.

Neither has been able to move past the other this month, either, Muschamp said.

Muschamp continues to say he believes the Gators could win with either player.

"What I have seen with both guys is a maturity level now of anticipating some of the situations that come up and what we're going to go to," Muschamp said. "I think when you start getting that, then you start maturing as a player, and you'll play better because you've got better anticipation of what's going to happen. But I think both guys have shown that, and that's been thing I've been most pleased with.

"&They have a tough mentality about themselves. They have great athleticism for the position. They throw the ball extremely well and they're both great competitors. I think they both have the intangible qualities that you need at the position."

Pease doesn't believe it'll be a difficult decision to pick a starter  whether it's a permanent one or on a week-to-week basis.

"I don't think it's going to be that tough, and I say that because I think they're both capable," he said. "The thing I've seen from both of them is this: They have both gotten better in all aspects of their game, and that's the main thing. If they can get better to where they both can manage and make plays, then that's really what we're striving for."
