GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- University of Florida receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Aubrey Hill, who has been linked to a former University of Miami booster who allegedly provided improper benefits to numerous athletes, has resigned because of personal reasons.

The school released a statement announcing the move Friday.

"Aubrey informed me he was resigning for personal reasons that have nothing to do with the University of Florida," UF coach Will Muschamp said in a statement. "Aubrey didn't want to be a distraction to our team and our football program and he thought it was best for him to move on."

Hill did not elaborate on his reason for resigning other than to say he did not want to be a distraction.

"I have too much love and respect for this program to become a distraction as I deal with some personal issues," Hill said. "I'm thankful for the opportunity to have worked with Coach Muschamp, a tremendous staff, and a great group of players. The future is very bright here and the University of Florida will always have a special place in my heart."

Muschamp said offensive coordinator Brent Pease and graduate assistant Bush Hamdan will work with the receivers this season. Hamdan was a backup quarterback at Boise State in 2005-08. Pease was the Broncos' receivers coach in 2006-10 and the offensive coordinator in 2011. Hamdan spent last season as the tight ends coach at Sacramento State.

Hill's name surfaced in a Yahoo! Sports report last August about former Miami booster Nevin Shapiro, who allegedly provided improper benefits to at least 72 athletes from 2002-10.

According to the report, Shapiro alleges that Hill -- who was then Miami's recruiting coordinator and receivers coach -- was among the assistant coaches that helped deliver recruits to Shapiro's home and luxury suite and that the coaches knew that NCAA violations were being committed.

Hill's name also has been linked to alleged recruiting violations by former Miami equipment manager and Shapiro associate Sean Allen, who allegedly was used as an off-the-books recruiter and helped arrange transportation and made phone calls to recruits, according to the report.

Hill, who played four years at Florida and served as a GA with the Gators in 1996-98, spent three seasons as Miami's receivers coach and recruiting coordinator (2008-10) before joining Muschamp's staff in 2011 in the same position.

Hill spent five seasons coaching wide receivers at Duke (1999-2003), one season coaching receivers at Elon (2004) and three seasons coaching receivers at Pittsburgh (2005-07) before joining the Miami staff.

Hill grew up in Miami and caught 86 passes and 18 touchdowns in his UF career (1991-94).
