John Jenkins ineligible for bowl
When his team reported to Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday to begin bowl preparations, Bulldogs coach Mark Richt revealed to reporters that senior John Jenkins is academically ineligible to participate in the bowl, effectively ending his college career.
A projected first-round NFL draft pick, Jenkins was a second-team All-SEC selection this fall after totaling 50 tackles on Georgia's defensive line.
In addition, Richt said before the Bulldogs concluded on-campus bowl practices in Athens last week that senior defensive end Abry Jones -- out since suffering an ankle injury Oct. 20 against Kentucky -- is probable to play against the Cornhuskers.
Jenkins was Georgia's only player who did not make the trip to Orlando, according to Georgia sports information director Claude Felton.
