ESPN150 Update: New 150 Entries

NORMAN, Okla. -- With the updated release of the ESPN 150 on Wednesday, maybe Oklahoma quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel knew what he was doing after all in the search for the Sooners quarterback in the class of 2013.

After much deliberation, the OU assistant coach found his man last month in Cody Thomas (Colleyville, Texas/Heritage). Thomas, who is 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, wasn't in the initial ESPN 150 two months ago, but he is now. Thomas has made the leap from being unranked to No. 93 in the new ESPN 150.

Thomas is one of six OU commits in the ESPN 300. The Sooners have four in the 150.

Thomas is also expected to play baseball for the Sooners. With the MLB First-Year Player Draft still a year away things can change. Right now, though, Thomas doesn't care about a pro baseball career and is firmly focused on becoming a Sooner.

Thomas is actually the fourth-highest OU commit in the list and once again it is the running backs leading the charge.

The top two commits are at the same position with Greg Bryant (Delray Beach, Fla./American Heritage-Boca Delray) and Keith Ford (Cypress, Texas/Ranch). Bryant is No. 30, followed by Ford at No. 33.

The No. 1-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma is next for the Sooners with defensive end D.J. Ward (Lawton, Okla./Lawton). Ward comes in at No. 90.

And making their way into the initial ESPN 300 are two more four-star commits in athlete Stanvon Taylor (Tulsa, Okla./East Central) and defensive end Matt Dimon (Katy, Texas/Katy.).

Taylor has successfully recovered from a broken ankle and has been impressive in spring workouts to earn the No. 219 ranking.

Dimon, the second commit of the class, rounds out the group at No. 275.

OU has eight commits in its class, meaning only offensive tackle Dalton Rodriguez (Tulsa, Okla./Union) and safety Ahmad Thomas (Miami/Central) are not on the list.

It is not too surprising as Rodriguez has not played one down in high school at offensive tackle. Instead, he has been a dominant defensive end, but it appears his future could be on offense.

Thomas has been a late bloomer, who quickly pulled the trigger after being offered by OU defensive backs coach Mike Stoops.
