LB Deoundrei Davis commits to Texas
Shortly after Deoundrei Davis (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods) got home from Texas' junior day Saturday evening, Mack Brown wanted to have a talk with him.
But they didn't discuss Texas' plans for the outside linebacker over the phone. Instead, they had a Facebook chat at 10 p.m.
"He was telling me that this a good place for me and a good fit and how much they really wanted me," Davis said. "They think I would make an immediate impact on the field."
And when Brown ended that chat with a scholarship offer, Davis couldn't help but get excited. He slept on it but knew right when he woke up Sunday morning he was ready to become a Longhorn.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound junior became commitment No. 7 for Texas' 2013 recruiting class. Davis will play Sam linebacker and might be the only linebacker the Longhorns take for this class.
"My heart and my mind said the same thing. I had a feeling Texas was the place for me," he said. "From the coaching staff to the players and facilities, it felt like home."
Davis said his decision came down to Texas or Oklahoma State. He had no doubts about whether UT was the right fit for him after watching Saturday's spring practice.
"Coach [Manny] Diaz, he's the coach for me," Davis said. "We got along well, we're on the same page, and they basically run the same defense I run now."
Davis said he's confident Texas will pick up several more commitments this week from the group that visited Austin on Saturday.
He has no doubt about the future of the program after seeing all the talent the Longhorns coaches have already locked up.
"Growing up Texas was always the school I looked up to, and I always wanted to go there as a child," Davis said. "I want to bring a national championship back to Texas.

"Not to sound cocky, but with the recruiting classes that Coach Brown has brought in, I feel that we can do it in the first two years I'm there."
Davis is the third defensive recruit to give the Longhorns a verbal pledge this spring, joining linemen Jake Raulerson (Celina, Texas/Celina) and A'Shawn Robinson (Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington Heights).
Davis felt honored to be the top linebacker on the Longhorns' wish list, and when he went to bed last night he had no doubt about his choice. He felt even better when he delivered his commitment in the morning.
"My mama started crying," he said. "This is a dream come true for all of us."
