MONTREAL -- Former boxing champion Dave Hilton Jr. will
remain behind bars for a sexual assault conviction after his bid
for bail was postponed Wednesday.
His lawyer asked the court to appeal the seven-year sentence his
client received in April. He also wanted Hilton released on bail
pending the appeal of the conviction.
However, when the government objected to both requests, Justice
Andre Brossard suggested the matter be delayed until July 25.
Hilton's lawyer, Paul Skolnik, told Brossard on Wednesday he
thought the seven-year prison term excessive and recommended three
The 37-year-old Hilton was convicted in March on all nine
sex-related counts involving two girls. The abuse began when the
sisters were both 12 and continued from 1995 to 1998.
The World Boxing Council stripped Hilton of his super
middleweight title a few weeks later.
