chamycham from [199.44.215.254], at 3:37pm ET Hi Katie, you're an awesome player!! What do you think your team needs to do in order to make it to the Final Four, and possibly win it all? Katie Douglas at 3:38pm ET
Thanks for your support. I think our team needs to play with a lot of energy and enthusiasm and we need to concentrate on rebounding and prizing each possession. Against Texas Tech, we definitely need to take care of the ball and box out, and limit their transition. As far as we go, we just need to play we're capable of playing, like in the first half of the LSU game. Megan Cooperider from [206.64.96.166], at 3:39pm ET Katie, do you have a dog? If so, what is his name and why did you name him that? Katie Douglas at 3:40pm ET
Hi, Megan. Thanks for the sign at the game. My dog's name is Scooby D Douglas. I named him that because Scooby Doo is my favorite cartoon, and I think he kind of looks like Scooby. I'll see you tonight. sean from [209.214.201.154], at 3:40pm ET do you feel your team can match up with the "elite" teams such as tennessee, connecticut and notre dame? Katie Douglas at 3:41pm ET
I think we're very comparable to those teams. I think there's a lot of similarities between us, but I think that we can play with any of those teams if we play the way we're capable of playing. For now, we're just excited about getting the opportunity to play Texas Tech. Purdue Grad 98 from [66.20.140.125], at 3:41pm ET Hey KT, I've been amazed at your ability to play ball with all that you've gone through in the last few years. It's been a joy watching you over the last 4 years as a Purdue guy myself. What has Coach Curry brought to the table that Coach Peck and Fortner may not have had? Go get em' tiger!! Katie Douglas at 3:42pm ET
Thanks for your support and for continuing to follow my career. I think coach Curry brings a lot of enthusiasm and a hard-nosed work ethic to the program. That's not to say that neither coach Peck or Forner didn't have those qualities. But I think what stands out most about coach Curry is that she's a very good recruiter, as seen in her first year here. bballergal11 from [207.90.127.38], at 3:43pm ET Katie, will you be at any of the basketball camps this summer? Katie Douglas at 3:44pm ET
I hope not. I hope this summer I will be continuing my basketball career in the WNBA. I'm someone who likes warm, tropical conditions, but I'd love to play in any of the WNBA cities. Sarah from [198.70.48.73], at 3:44pm ET Katie, I just wanted you to know that I enjoy watching you play. You are a great role model. You have accomplished so much at Purdue. What has it been like to play on Purdue for four years? What made you want to go to Purdue? Good luck in the rest of the postseason. I'll be cheering you on. Go Boilermakers!!! Katie Douglas at 3:46pm ET
It's been a dream come true to play here. At Purdue, you get a great athletic and athletic tradition. The support has been tremendous, both on and off the floor. I think the main factor that made me come here was probably the academic and athletic tradition. Plus, it's close to home and my family would be able to see me play. I also considered Wisconsin, which was second on the list. And Auburn. Lorri from [206.140.16.6] at 3:46pm ET You seem to do so many things well on the court. Which part of the game do you enjoy the most? Katie Douglas at 3:47pm ET
I probably most enjoy having the ball on the break and dishing it off to the open player, I guess making my players better. Over four years, I've developed a great relationship with Camille, and love to throw it up or lob it up to her on the break and let her score. bigdadkano from [64.24.14.34], at 3:48pm ET How big of an adjustment will you have to make to not only play a higher ranked team, but to play away from home for the first time in the tournament? Katie Douglas at 3:49pm ET
I think it's going to be a big challenge for our team to go to Birmingham and play the No. 2-seeded team, Texas Tech. At times this year we have been extremely efficient on the road, but at other times we have played poorly. Hopefully our team understands that this is the time of year that any game can be your final game, and that we bring a lot of energy and preparation into Saturday's game and come out with a win. Kevin from [172.135.98.175], at 3:49pm ET Hey Katie, who was your biggest roll model growing up? Good luck against Texas Tech. Go Boilers! Katie Douglas at 3:50pm ET
My biggest role models were both of my parents. They were both very hard workers and people who set goals, and that's something that I learned from both of them. bigdadkano from [64.24.14.34], at 3:51pm ET How were you so poised at the freethrow line so late in that close game on Sunday? Was it confidence? Maturity? How can you go about passing that sort of thing on to the younger players, or is it purely natural? Katie Douglas at 3:52pm ET
I'm glad I came off as poised. But in actuality, I was extremely nervous. But toward the time I was about to shoot my free throws, I kept telling myself that it's like any other free throw, and I needed to step up and hit both for my team. I think I was just reassuring myself and giving myself confidence to step up to the line. Maturity probably played a big part in that also. For younger players, my advice would be to simulate that type of situation when you're practicing every day. You'll get better. Pittsburgh John from [198.178.8.81], at 3:53pm ET Katie: Congrats on a great season. What do think about while you're bringing the ball down court? Katie Douglas at 3:54pm ET
I think when I have the ball in my hands, I'm trying to recognize what type of defense the other team is in, and making sure everybody is in their correct positions for whatever set or play we're running. Hanna & Theresa from [64.12.102.171], at 3:54pm ET Hi Katie, It is Hanna & Theresa family friends from chicago. Good luck this weekend and great job last weekend. How Nervous were you with that free throw? Also Hanna wants to know how is scooby doing? Katie Douglas at 3:56pm ET
Hey Hanna and Theresa. Hope you guys are doing well. Thanks for your message and support. I was pretty nervous the other night at the free-throw line, but very excited and happy about the outcome of the game. And Scooby is doing wonderful. He's starting to outgrow some of his puppy tendencies (biting, barking, everything). Hope to see you guys some time soon. drew from [128.211.159.13], at 3:56pm ET Katie When you make to the WNBA what do you think it will feel like playing against formal teammates like Ukari Figs and Stephanie White-McCarthy Katie Douglas at 3:57pm ET
I have to make it to the WNBA first, but if I got the opportunity to play against one or both, it'd be a little bit strange, but also exciting and fun because we know each other so well as players. Hopefully maybe I can be teammates with at least one of them one day. Katie Douglas at 3:58pm ET
Thanks y'all for your questions and for your support. You guys have been great. Hopefully y'all can check out my ESPN.com diary next week with good news from Birmingham. | |||||||
