Chat wrap: Jason Priestley

Jason Priestley
Welcome to ABCSports.com's moderated chat room. On Friday, May 25, Indianapolis 500 broadcaster Jason Priestley dropped by to take your questions on Saturday's race.

Priestley, a noted race enthusiast, joined ABC Sports' Indy Racing League broadcast team at the start of the season and will be a part of Saturday's Indianapolis 500 broadcast with Bob Jenkins, new ABC analyst Larry Rice and pit reporters Jack Arute and Vince Welch.

Priestly is best known for his longtime role as Brandon on Beverly Hills 90210 and has appeared in numerous movies including Eye of the Beholder and Love and Death on Long Island. He recently directed a documentary entitled Barenaked in America about the band Barenaked Ladies.

The following is a transcript from the May 25 chat:

Jason Priestly: Hi evryone. It's good to be here. Let's get to the questions.

IRL Fan, Munice: Who do think is the top contenders to win this years Indy 500?

Jason Priestley: That's difficult because the field is so deep with drivers that have a shot at winning the race. I'd say Scott Sharp and Mark Dismore. Jeff Ward. Robby Gordon. Scott Goodyear or Greg Ray. And someone who will be joining our telecast on Sunday - Two-time winner Arie Luyendyk.

Bill S. Waukesha, WI : Jason- I'm just wondering if you are currently doing any racing. I know you did the Motorola Cup a few years ago.

Jason Priestley: No I'm not driving this year. But I'm talking to a couple of teams about getting back into a race car next season. Probably GT2 or 3.

Bobby (Nanaimo): Avs or Devils?

Jason Priestley: Avs in seven.

Tommy from Atlanta: Jason, what's the best Canadian beer? Ever had a Red Maple made by Northern Breweries in Sault Ste. Marie?

Jason Priestley: Seeing as I'm from British Columbia, my favorite Canadian beer is Kokanee. I've never had Red Maple. Send some to ABC attention: Me.

Jim T.: When was the last time you raced? How did you do?

Jason Priestley: Last time I raced was October of '99. Mont TREMBLANT, Que. I crashed but I was leading by 16 seconds at the time! What a bummer.

IRL Fan, Munice: Which form of auto racing would you say is most popular in Canadian?

Jason Priestley: Formula One is very popular. And the event in Montreal is one of the best on the F-1 circuit. But Canadian racing fans are some of the best in the world and support all forms of motorsport very passionately.

Tim (Brampton): Barenaked Ladies or Tragically Hip?

Jason Priestley: Barenaked Ladies but I'm a big fan of early Hip.

Keith from Bradenton, FL: Spurs or Lakers?

Jason Priestley: Lakers, I'm afraid. No one's got a game for them because it doesn't matter how big your big man is, he's still not as big as Shaq.

Sarah Bloomington: What do you think of Sarah Fisher's chances or where do you think she will place

Jason Priestley: Sarah has just as good a chance of winning as any other driver in the field. She has great equipment and her team owner, Derrick Walker, always fields cars that are threat to win.

Jennifer: Would you rather score a goal in game 7, triple OT for the Stanley Cup or win the 500?

Jason Priestley: Stanley Cup.

DM: Who won INDY last year? Wasn't it a CART driver. I suppose that is what is going to happen again, ey?

Jason Priestley: Not necessarily. Chip Ganassi has of course entered four very strong cars as has Roger Penske entered two. But Juan Montoya will not be piloting any of them. So I don't think we'll see one driver dominate in that fashion this year.

Jason Priestley: Hey everybody. Thanks for the questions. I look forward to chatting with you next time.
