Chat wrap: Julius Peppers

Welcome to ESPN.com's moderated chat room. On Wednesday, April 3, former North Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers dropped by to take your 2002 NFL Draft questions in chat.

Julius Peppers
DE, North Carolina
6-6, 283, 4.7
 Peppers
Mel Kiper's top-rated defensive end, Peppers considered coming out for the NFL draft as a third-year sophomore but decided to return to school. In his final season, Peppers had 63 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks and three interceptions. He led the Tar Heels in tackles for loss, sacks and interceptions, was on almost every All-America team and won the Lombardi Trophy.

Julius Peppers: I am here and ready to go ...

Pakboy: Julius, who do you want to sack the most when you get into the NFL?

Julius Peppers: David Carr.

DAVE Hartford: Are you upset that Everyone is looking past you at Carr as the #1 overall pick? Especially knowing the importance of having a good pass rusher in the NFL.

Julius Peppers: No, that's cool with me. It doesn't bother me at all. Houston needs a QB. If they feel somebody else is a better pick than me oh well .. the best player in the draft will just have to go at No. 2.

Robert (Walhalla,SC): Hey Julius do you ever find yourself wondering if you could be a good player in the NBA?

Sorry for the tough question. Good Luck in NFL!

Julius Peppers: I feel like I can play in the NBA right now, if I worked on my game just a bit. I have no doubt in my mind I could do it.

JT, College Park: Julius you mentioned that you like Krispy Kreme dougnuts but do you change your food diet when it's time to workout?

Julius Peppers: I like Krispy Kreme .. I have terrible eating habits. It doesn't change when I work out .. it will catch up with me someday I know.

Joel (Chapel Hill): Julius,

Some scouts and analysts say that you might end up moving to OLB. Would you like to play linebacker or do you envision yourself playing DE your entire career?

Julius Peppers: It doesn't matter to me .. I can play LB or DE. Only difference would be the learning adjustment. But that wouldn't take long at all.

Daniel (WI): Julius, what do you think your immediate impact will be for the team you end up on, from on the field into the locker room?

Julius Peppers: When I come in this rookie year I will make an impact .. maybe not huge but everyone will know I'm there. I won't just be a name on a roster.

P. Mott (Charleston, SC): Hey, Julius! Have you enjoyed all this pre-draft attention and these combines and workouts, or do you just view it all as a necessary step to raise your draft stock? Thanks and congrats on a great college career.

Julius Peppers: Some of it is fun, some of it is not. But there are cetain things you just have to do, there is no way around it. But you can't let it bother you. You are only here once so you have to have fun.

jason toledo: julius, how do u feel about the comparisons to LT?

Julius Peppers: I look at it two ways .. it's great that people look at me and say I have that type of ability but then again, I look at it as I don't want to be someone else. I want to be Julius Peppers.

Cheeto (Seattle): Hello Mr Peppers. You are going to have a fantastic career in the NFL. You returned to school after considering the draft last year. How do you think that helped you to prepare for the next step?

Julius Peppers: It helped me out more mentally than physically.. I had the ability to come out last year but I had some growing up to do.

JC (SUMTER): How do yu feel about possible being a Carolina Panther eventhough they had a 1-15 season?

Julius Peppers: I look at it as a challenge .. doesn't worry me. I don't want to go to a team that was just in the Super Bowl because I wouldn't be helping them accomplish anything. I want to help a team grow.

Mike (MS): Julius, since you live in North Carolina, do you follow the "other" big sport there, NASCAR?

Julius Peppers: Of course N. Carolina. Also, in the NBA I like Rasheed Wallace but I don't really have a favorite team.

Aaron (South Bend): Julius, BIG Tarheel fan here.......how soon before the basketball team is back on track? They sure missed you this year!

Julius Peppers: Next year they will be back. They should get it back together, hopefully. Everyone knows Raymond coming in and the freshen they had this year will mature and get much better. They should be back in the hunt next year.

Dimitri (New York): Hey Julius, big fan here. I've been following you around for a while now and i knew that some day you would become a big time NFL player. Where do you see yourself 3 years from now?

Julius Peppers: Let's see .. I have no idea. Hopefully I'm in the league doing very well and will have made the Pro Bowl. Whatever team I am with should be a contender by then.

Jason(So Cali): Hey Julius! How do you feel with people drawing similarities between you and sack artists like Jevon Kearse or Reggie White, do feel alot of pressure from these comparisons or does it drive you to get better?

Julius Peppers: No pressure. I don't get into a lot of that hype. I just let people say what they say. As soon as I have a game where I don't do as well those same people will dog me so I just don't get into it.

Dave, Buffalo: Julius, who had the biggest influence in your life as a kid and why?

Julius Peppers: For my football career it was one of my high school coaches, Brian Foster.

Josh D (Davie): Julius, What do you bring to the team that drafts you? Good Luck!!!!

Julius Peppers: They are going to get a good player with a great work ethic who just won't stop until he is the greatest he can be. You can't ask for much more than that.

Shawn(Toledo): So why did you choose football over bball? Just curious

Julius Peppers: Football is a sport that presents the greatest challenge. Basketball was just something I had to do .. I wanted to prove to people I could play on the college sport. After my last basketball season was when I knew my future was football.

JSH(Danville,VA): Ive seen many sources saying that you weigh 275 others 290 and others 280-285 where are you in that range?

Julius Peppers: 285.

Mike (Wichita): Has Carolina said that you are their man, or what impressions have they left you with? Has any other teams expressed an interest in moving up to draft you?

Julius Peppers: I have no idea what Carolina or anyone else is thinking. Truthfully I don't see how Carolina could pass me up but you never know what goes into their decision making process.

Julius Peppers: I appreciate all the questions.. I have to get ready for this shoot with NFL 2Night.

Thanks for all the support.
