Notre Dame freshman Shaun Crawford (ACL tear) out for season

8/19/2015

Notre Dame freshman cornerback Shaun Crawford will miss the 2015 season after tearing an ACL during practice Wednesday morning, coach Brian Kelly announced.

The 5-foot-8.5, 180-pound Crawford had been among the most impressive freshmen during the Irish's first two weeks of fall camp, putting himself in position to see plenty of time this season at nickelback.

Crawford, an ESPN 300 prospect, had enrolled at Notre Dame in June after graduating from Saint Edward (Ohio) High. He was an ESPN four-star prospect, the No. 6 player in the state of Ohio and the No. 169 overall player from the Class of 2015.

The Irish are set with No. 1 corners, with KeiVarae Russell and Cole Luke already holding down starting jobs. Redshirt senior Matthias Farley, who has played all over the secondary throughout his career, figures to be the primary nickelback.
