Oliver Luck staying at West Virginia

5/17/2012

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Oliver Luck is staying at West Virginia.

The athletic director sent a text message to The Associated Press on Thursday confirming he would remain with the Mountaineers.

There had been talk that Luck might be interested in taking over at Stanford, where his son, Andrew, starred at quarterback before he was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the top pick in last month's NFL draft. Luck also has a daughter who plays volleyball at Stanford.

The Stanford job became available earlier this month when the Big 12 hired Bob Bowlsby as commissioner.

Luck has overseen numerous changes in less than two years since taking over at his alma mater.

He hired Dana Holgorsen in 2010 to eventually replace Bill Stewart as football coach. WVU filed a lawsuit against the Big East last year in a bid to make a quick exit for the Big 12. The lawsuit was settled in February, and the Mountaineers will join the Big 12 in July.
