Mavs center Salah Mejri will undergo knee surgery on Thursday. A team source said the operation will be "a minor cleaning" and would not affect Mejri's availability for training camp. "I haven't joined the national team earlier because I was undecided about the surgery, by it's been decided now," Mejri told FIBA.com. He will not play for Tunisia in the Olympic qualifying tournament. Mejri, 30, flashed potential as a shot-blocker, rebounder and roll man as a rookie last season. The Mavs have him under contract for nonguaranteed minimum salaries the next two seasons and expect him to be a rotation player.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he never considered pinch-hitting Alex Rodriguez in Aaron Hicks' place in the ninth, despite the fact that the tying run was at the plate early Tuesday morning. With a righty on the mound, the amount of hours Rodriguez sat and the short porch in right, Girardi said turning to A-Rod was not a thought. When asked when he could pinch-hit A-Rod in AL parks, Girardi didn't have much of answer instead basically saying wait-and-see. A-Rod is in tonight's lineup, starting against lefty Cole Hamels. A-Rod is 1-for-6 with a homer.
