It remains unclear whether Texas will support Big 12 expansion. But one Texas mega-booster apparently is. San Antonio billionaire Red McCombs told ESPN radio in San Antonio that he is in favor of the Big 12 expanding back to 12 teams, provided one of those teams is Houston. "I think we need to add two teams to the Big 12 and should have done it two years ago. The first one should be the University of Houston then it would be your choice of several others." The Big 12 presidents and athletic directors are scheduled to convene in Irving, Texas, next week to discuss, among other topics, expansion.

Joey Gallo, who arrived in Texas with much fanfare last season, is making his first appearance with the club this season. He recently returned from the 15-day disabled list with a strained groin. In 24 games with Round Rock, Gallo hit .265 with 8 homers and 20 RBI.

The Texas Rangers put OF Shin-Soo Choo on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. They also put OF Drew Stubbs placed on the 15-day disabled list with sprained left little toe. The Rangers recalled 3B/OF Joey Gallo from Triple-A Round Rock as well as OF Jared Hoying.

Tough day for the Rangers as they placed outfielders Shin-Soo Choo and Drew Stubbs on the DL and announced Josh Hamilton will miss the entire season after another knee surgery. This opens the door for Joey Gallo, who should log time in left field after hitting .265/.415/.639 at Triple-A. Importantly, he's cut down on his K's and should be more ready than last season.

Who should be favored in the NFC East?

Despite taking the division title by two games, Washington wasn't exactly a top team in 2015. With OTAs set to kick off this week, the NFC East looks to be wide open.

Jayson Stark ESPN Senior Writer

Strange But True note du jour: The 2 longest winning streaks in baseball belong to Jake Arrieta (19 in a row) & Cole Hamels (12). Except both lost games in the middle of their streaks. They just came during the postseason. Which counts separately.
