Tony Barnette replaces Darvish, who's night is over after a stressful 5th inning. He allows one run on three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. He threw 81 pitches, including 51 strikes.

With ESPN 300 receiver Hezekiah Jones' decommitment from Baylor Saturday evening, the Bears' 2017 recruiting class is essentially down to one commitment. While both ESPN 300 quarterback Kellen Mond and three-star safety Jalen Pitre remain officially committed, Mond is actively looking at Ohio State, Auburn and other schools. Jones backing off his commitment is a big loss for the Bears, but it also isn't a major surprise. Jones, the No. 16 receiver in the country, has continued to be heavily recruited by Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and many others even though he was a longtime Baylor commitment.

The Pirates turn a single, a stolen base and a two-out, two-strike single by second baseman Cole Figueroa into a run against Darvish. He still collects two more strikeouts, giving him seven, and has thrown 81 pitches. If he has a quick sixth inning, the Rangers might try to coax another inning out of him. But he's starting his third time through the lineup, so odds are the sixth will be Darvish's last. The Rangers had reliever Tony Barnette warming up with two outs in the fifth.

Through four innings, Darvish has allowed one hit and no runs, while striking out four, walking one and throwjng 60 pitches. He's kept Pittsburgh's hitters off-balance by changing speeds effectively. His fastball is sitting at 96 mph, while his slider is at 83 and his slow curve is at 70. Starling Marte struck out on three pitches in the third: a 93-mph fastball, followed by an 81-mph slider and a 95-mph fastball.

As expected, Baylor is getting hammered by rival recruiters trying to lure away players that signed this past February as part of a top-20 class and the remaining three commits in the 2017 class. It's still not clear whether or not the signees will be given releases from their letters of intent, but many like No. 1 offensive guard Patrick Hudson don't plan to enroll in summer classes on Monday and are talking with other schools.

Another day, another player backs out of his pledge from Baylor. Saturday evening three-star safety Donovan Stiner tweeted he was no longer pledged to the Bears. This is the third recruit that has backed off a commitment to Baylor since Art Briles was fired Thursday. The Bears now have three commitments in the 2017 class, and two of those commitments are actively looking at other schools.
