Cowboys take QB for just 3rd time since 2001.

The Cowboys have their quarterback, selecting Missisissippi State's Dak Prescott with the 135th pick in the draft. He is the first quarterback the Cowboys have drafted since taking Stephen McGee in the fourth round of the 2009 draft. The Cowboys did extensive work on Prescott leading up to the draft and had him at Valley Ranch for a pre-draft visit.

Colts fourth-round pick DT Hassan Ridgeway surprised a lot of people with his decision to go pro early, but he's an athletic 6-foot-3, 303-pounder whose best football is ahead of him. Texas coaches liked to call him "Green Mile" because he's huge, quiet and intimidating.

Was No. 34 too early for Jaylon Smith?

Mel Kiper Jr. is pulling for Smith in the linebacker's recovery from a knee injury, but he thinks the Cowboys might have jumped the gun in taking this risk. Winners and question marks (Insider)

The Cowboys wanted to draft Paxton Lynch and keep him on the bench for a couple of seasons, which would've drawn praise. They draft LB Jaylon Smith, who will probably miss at least one season with a knee injury, and the pick draws considerable criticism. Interesting.
