Rick Carlisle classified Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's recent comments about Dirk Nowitzki as disappointing. Abdul-Jabbar recently called Nowitzki "a one-trick pony" who has not had a dominant career. "Dirk personifies greatness, what greatness is in the NBA and in sport in general, just the way he approaches everything," Carlisle said on 103.3 FM ESPN, adding that Nowitzki has carried a franchise with "very little Hall of Fame help" compared to other all-time greats. "I view the comments as unfortunate, and I love the way that Dirk handled it. He handled it in his normal, classy, humble but truthful way. And his sincerity is something that is really one of the gems in all of sports. That's another thing that makes him extremely special."

More Rick Carlisle on Chandler Parsons, via 103.3 FM ESPN: "I have great belief in Parsons, and I think I demonstrate that by how much time I spend with him, how much I care about him and how much I push him. It's fascinating the way the media will look for something to be controversial, but the fact is the truth is not controversial. This kid is not 100 percent yet, so I'm not going to tab him as an automatic crunch-time guy until I feel that he's reached that point of his rehab and conditioning and everything else."

Rick Carlisle accepted some blame for Chandler Parsons' poor performance after the first quarter Wednesday night. "I made a big mistake in that game by playing him the entire first quarter," Carlisle said during his weekly appearance on 103.3 FM ESPN. "I don't believe he's played the entire first quarter of a game all season long, and when you do that, you really gas a guy. & If you run a guy the whole 12 minutes and he's not used to doing it, he's going to get tired. There was a play in the middle of the third quarter when he got a breakaway and he got a hold of the ball, and it was clear to me that he was just gassed. I really think that long stretch in the first quarter had a lot to do with it, and that's a mistake that I made that I will strive to not make again."

Schulz added the Big 12 will look to come to a 10-0 consensus moving forward on any major decisions, including possible expansion or implementation of a conference championship game.
