Some comments on Clint Hurdle, who is one of the Rangers' four candidates for the vacant hitting coach position:
"I think they had four guys that came in that they were comfortable with and felt good about spending time with," Hurdle said. "The converstaion at the table was very engaging. It's a great group of good, solid baseball men."
Hurdle said they discussed his philosophy on working with hitters and tried to get to know his personality better.
"We talked about the strengths of the ballclub offensively and how to make them better," Hurdle said. "I had some ideas on how to maximize the skill level of the hitters. And they have a lot of skilled hitters. The next step is to take the offensive game to a consistent level. You know you can score 10 runs, but can you score three when you need too? Can you score four?
"The significance of a run has taken on a greater meaning in Texas with the pitching and defense improving the way they have."
