The Rangers have made it official, hiring former Colorado Rockies manager Clint Hurdle as hitting coach. He replaces Rudy Jaramillo, who signed a three-year contract with the Cubs last month.
Hurdle was one of four finalists, including Rusty Greer, Thad Bosley and Gerald Perry, who interviewed for the position this week. Hurdle managed the Rockies to the 2007 World Series and was dismissed on May 29. He was a hitting coach in Colorado from 1997 until taking over as manager on April 26, 2002. Rangers manager Ron Washington was the third-base coach with Tidewater, the New York Mets' Triple-A affiliate, in 1992 when Hurdle was the manager.
Hurdle will speak to the media later this afternoon.
