We know the Rangers will be in the market for a right-handed bat this offseason. They listed that as a priority even before the season ended. So they are looking for one that is affordable, yet can make the lineup better.
MLB.com has a story up noting that Jermaine Dye is someone the Rangers could be interested in. He'll be 36 next season and has played in the league 14 years. That experience certainly wouldn't hurt a young club. He had a .250 average, but really slipped in the second half. Dye batted just .179 after the All-Star break and had a .293 on-base percentage in 212 at-bats. The dropoff is why the White Sox probably won't pick up his $12 million option for next season.
In the last three years, Dye has had just 25 at-bats at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. But he's 8-for-25 with a homer and three RBIs. He's been used only in right field in that span as well.
We'll get into some other possibilities as the weeks go along, but I wonder what you think of Dye. Do you want him in the Rangers lineup?
