Cameron goes into that group of outfielders that the Rangers could probably get on a one-year deal if they can't afford Marlon Byrd on a multi-year deal. Cameron, who will be 37 when the season starts, batted .250 with 24 homers and 70 RBIs. He had a .342 on-base percentage and had 156 strikeouts and 75 walks. Cameron is a career .250 hitter in 14-plus seasons.
But if Julio Borbon is supposed to be this team's centerfielder, why not put him out there? He'll take his lumps, but that's part of being a young player adjusting to the major leagues. And his experience in the bigs in 2009 should help.
Or do you ease Borbon in by getting someone like Cameron who can play centerfield?
