Stars suffer fourth shootout loss of season

That was a crazy, but fun game for Dallas Stars coach Marc Crawford's 1,000th game behind the bench in the NHL as Florida won, 6-5 in a shootout. Both teams scored like crazy and it was back-and-forth hockey. Click here for a replay of Friday's in-game chat.

The Stars, down 3-0, managed to comeback and get a point. But the Stars have now lost four shootouts this season.

Discuss:

  • We know one thing about this team early this season: They are resilient. Down 3-0 after just 15 minutes, the Stars chipped away. They got two goals late in the second period, with the help of Panthers penalties, and then added two more in the second to tie the score.
  • James Neal. He sure is something when he has time and space. Matt Niskanen made a great outlet pass and Neal did the rest to tie the score at 4 midway through the second. It completed the Stars' comeback. It was a very pretty goal. The youngster has a special ability to find the net. He has five goals in his last five games and is plus-4 with a 35.7 shooting percentage. His stick broke on his shootout attempt, which certainly hurt his chances of scoring. He was 5-for-9 on shootouts before that miss.
  • Tom Wandell is playing well. And Crawford is taking notice. That line (Brunnstrom and Sutherby joining him) was on the ice more than usual because they were doing a nice job against Steven Reinprecht's line. Reinprecht had a hat trick in the first period. Wandell also got a chance to play with Peterson and Barch, so he was getting a bunch of time.
  • On a night with so many goals, you figure that Mike Ribeiro would get on the scoresheet, right? He had a goal in the second period and was flying toward the net. He also drew a penalty as he got aggressive on the forecheck.
  • Jamie Benn is fun to watch. I know I've said that several times, but it's true. The guy skates so well and creates chances. He's in the right spots and you can hear the crowd get excited when he has the puck.
  • Alex Auld didn't have a good game on Friday. But his defense let him down at times too. I'm not sure at times what the Stars were doing. The fifth Florida goal is a prime example. Rostislav Olesz just skated right through the Stars defense and Auld wasn't quite ready for it. Seemed like they weren't on their game in spurts.
  • I'm still not sure how Fabian Brunnstrom found the room to get that goal in off the faceoff in the third period to tie the score at 5. Brunnstrom went short side and squeezed the puck past Florida goalie Scott Clemmensen, who was hugging the post (though not close enough, apparently). It was Brunnstrom's first goal.
  • Stars face Nashville on Saturday. They better get some rest.
