X-rays negative for Joe Saunders

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Texas Rangers left-hander Joe Saunders left his start Friday after being struck in the ankle by a ball.

The Rangers announced that Saunders was hit on the outside of the left ankle by Evan Longoria's liner in the fourth inning of Friday night's 8-1 loss to Tampa Bay.

X-rays were negative.

Daniel McCutchen replaced Saunders in the opener of a three-game series.
