DeRuyter to take over A&M defense

Texas A&M has hired Tim DeRuyter to be the Aggies' defensive coordinator and assistant head coach, the school announced Thursday.

DeRuyter, 47, was defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Air Force for three years. In 2009, Air Force finished 11th in the NCAA in total defense, allowing 288.31 yards per game. The pass defense was fifth in the nation.
