OF Jeff Francoeur becomes free agent

Outfielder Jeff Francoeur officially became a free agent after he was outrighted off the Texas Rangers' 40-man roster, cleared waivers and declined his outright assignment.

The Rangers acquired the 26-year-old Francoeur on Aug. 31 from the New York Mets for infielder Joaquin Arias. He batted .340 (18-for-53) with two homers and 11 RBIs in 15 games for the Rangers after the trade, playing primarly against left-handed pitching. He was 3-for-24 in the postseason.
