Cowboys, Tyron Smith reach deal

SAN ANTONIO -- Tackle Tyron Smith's first day as a professional was spent trying to defend DeMarcus Ware.

The Dallas Cowboys signed their first-round pick Thursday to a four-year, $12.5 million deal with a team option for a fifth season.

Smith, the ninth pick of the NFL draft out of USC, had some rookie moments in his first practice. He was taken out after a false start and was beaten off the snap by Ware for a sack during the afternoon practice at the Alamodome.
