Jim O'Brien retires from Mavs

DALLAS -- Jim O'Brien, a head coach for three NBA teams during his career, is retiring after a one-year stint as the Dallas Mavericks' offensive coordinator.

O'Brien, 61, informed Mavs coach Rick Carlisle of his decision on April 16. The Mavs are hiring former Portland Trail Blazers interim coach and assistant Kaleb Canales to replace O'Brien.
