IRVING, Texas -- When Tiger Woods opens his PGA Tour season at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on Feb. 9-12, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will be his playing partner, according to a source.

The pairing has been widely speculated since Woods announced he would make his 2012 debut at Pebble Beach and survived a bout of Tebowmania with some wondering if Woods would play with Denver quarterback Tim Tebow.

Woods and Romo have become friends over the years with the world's most famous golfer attending a U2 concert at Cowboys Stadium in the suite shared by Romo and Jason Witten.

They have played a pro-am round before, coming at the AT&T National at Congressional outside Washington D.C. in 2009.

Woods has not played the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am since 2002 but won the event in 2000 with a memorable comeback. Romo played the 2010 and '11 events with John Daly.

Todd Archer covers the Cowboys for ESPNDallas.com.
