ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers manager Ron Washington plans to take struggling first baseman Mitch Moreland out of the starting lineup for Game 3 at Comerica Park in Detroit on Tuesday and play Michael Young at first base.

That will also allow him to give Mike Napoli a break by letting him be the designated hitter while giving Yorvit Torrealba a start at catcher.

"I need to get Mike in the field for a game," Washington said, "and I want to give Torry a game."

Moreland has been struggling at the plate, going 2-for-17, and had a particularly rough game Monday night. His 0-for-4 included three strikeouts and a bases-loaded double play in the ninth. He also made an error in the field.

Torrealba hasn't played in the postseason since Game 1 of the ALDS. He was 0-for-3. Washington utilized Young at first base with 36 starts in 2011. Young had three errors and a .989 fielding percentage.
