Mitch Moreland undergoes wrist surgery

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist Wednesday and is expected to take eight to 12 weeks to recover.

That could mean Moreland may not be fully healthy by the start of spring training.

Moreland had the pisiform bone, a small pre-shaped bone located at the base of the wrist, removed during the procedure.

The surgery was performed by Tom Graham in Cleveland. Moreland has his wrist in a soft splint and will begin the rehab process in the next few days.

Moreland hit .259 with 16 homers and 51 RBI in 134 games for Texas in 2011. He started 89 games at first base, 28 in right field, and seven as the designated hitter. He was bothered by soreness in the wrist over the latter part of the season.
