Napoli, who felt the quad tighten during the last homestand, didn't play the final two games in Boston earlier this week to give it some time to rest. He was back in the lineup on Friday, but is now on the disabled list, which will hopefully give it time to heal. The first day he is eligible to return is Aug. 26.
"It's been there a long time," Rangers manager Ron Washington said of Napoli's injury. "It just never healed up."
Napoli is batting .223 with 17 homers and 40 RBIs in 92 games this season. He leads the club with 61 starts at catcher. Geovany Soto is in the lineup at catcher on Saturday.
Washington said he doesn't consider Napoli's leg injury severe.
"He can take this time and he doesn't have to worry about results," Washington said. "He can just work."
Whenever Martinez gets on the field, it will be his first action in a Rangers uniform. He has spent the entire season at Triple-A Round Rock, hitting .270 with two homers, 15 doubles, two triples and 22 RBIs in 65 games.
