ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish had a long-toss session on Thursday and is on track to start Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels.

Club officials said Darvish's stiff neck felt better and he's scheduled to throw off a mound on Friday. If that goes well and he continues to improve, Darvish will start Sunday. Zack Greinke is the probable pitcher for the Angels that day.

Darvish was scratched from his start Tuesday with the stiff neck and since has received treatment. The right-hander is 16-9 with a 3.90 ERA and 214 strikeouts. He leads all rookies in wins and is third in the American League in strikeouts. The 26-year-old has thrown seven consecutive quality starts.

By pitching Sunday, Darvish would be in line to pitch in Game 1 of the postseason should the AL West-leading Rangers choose to do that.
