Former Texas Rangers catcher Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez is expected to join the club in some capacity this spring to work with the organization's catchers.

"We're anticipating that he's going to be at spring training for a period of time," general manager Jon Daniels said. "We're in the process of talking to him about finalizing a role."

Rodriguez could provide some help to Hector Ortiz, the club's catching coordinator.

Rodriguez announced his retirement from the game last year at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington after 21 years in the game. He caught a major-league-record 2,427 games and played the first 12 of his 21 seasons with Texas.

Rodriguez helped the Rangers win three AL West titles in the late 1990s and was the 1999 AL MVP, hitting .332 with 35 homers and 113 RBIs. He won 13 Gold Gloves in his career, 10 of them with Texas.
