Deron Williams, the most coveted player in this summer's free-agent class, told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that he will meet with representatives from the Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks on Monday before deciding which team he will sign with.

The star point guard added that he is leaning toward one of the two teams, but refused to name which one.

Mavericks free agent point guard Jason Kidd also will join whichever team Williams chooses, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.

But Williams told Broussard in a telephone conversation later Saturday night that Williams and Kidd are not a "package deal."

Williams told Broussard that he and Kidd have spoken about playing together, but Williams insists the two friends both realize they must do what's best for each other.

Williams is spending the weekend playing golf with Kidd in New York's Hamptons, sources told Bucher, yet one more indicator the Nets have at least a fighting chance to keep Williams and add Kidd sometime after free agency begins Sunday.

Kidd, who has indicated he hopes to serve as a backup to Williams either in Brooklyn or Dallas, also recently purchased a home in East Hampton, a source close to Kidd told Bucher.

Another source with business ties to both Kidd and Williams told Bucher that the two already have decided to play together for the Nets next season. However, multiple sources say Williams is still torn about his decision.

Williams has said he wants to make his decision before training camp for the U.S. men's Olympic team begins in Las Vegas on July 7.

Information from ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher and Chris Broussard was used in this report.
