Dallas Mavericks guard Rodrigue Beaubois sprained his left ankle in the team's 89-84 exhibition win over Alba Berlin on Saturday.

Coach Rick Carlisle told reporters in Berlin that he did not know the severity of the sprain. Carlisle said he would provide an update on the condition of Beaubois, who reportedly wore a protective boot as he left the arena, when the team arrived in Barcelona, where the Mavericks will play another exhibition game Tuesday.

Carlisle has said he believes this will be a breakout season for Beaubois, an athletic combo guard whose potential has been a tease since a rookie season that featured several flashes of brilliance, including a 40-point game.

Beaubois averaged 8.9 points and 2.9 assists last season but played a total of only 12 playoff minutes as the Mavs were swept out of the first round by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Beaubois' development has been stunted by a fractured left foot that he originally suffered while training with the French national team in the summer of 2010. The foot did not heal properly after surgery, prompting Beaubois to undergo a second operation.

Before the Mavs left for Berlin, Beaubois noted with excitement this was the first time he had been healthy entering a training camp since his rookie season.
