Dallas Cowboys CBs are 'big concern'
"It is a concern," Jones said after the Cowboys' 17-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins in both teams' preseason finale. "It is a big concern. It bothers me."
Jenkins has been sidelined with a stinger, and Newman is out with a groin injury. Their status is uncertain for the Cowboys' season opener Sept. 11 against the New York Jets.
"It's football," said Jenkins, who believes he'll be ready for the opener against the Jets. "You're never going to be right until you think it's ready. Part of it is mental. I'm mentally ready to get back out there. Physically I haven't made any contact yet. I guess when the time [comes], that's when they're waiting on."
Jenkins said he's never had a stinger before, so it was unsettling for him to wait for the nerves in his neck/shoulder area to heal.
"Just going through the physicals ... it's frustrating," Jenkins said. "It's one of these injuries where you don't want to mess around with anything on your neck. I was a little frustrated coming out because I never did anything like that. I had sprained ankles but never had a stinger, so I didn't know what to expect."
Jones said Newman should be ready for the season-opener. The 53-man roster has to be finalized Saturday.
In other injury news, undrafted wide receiver Raymond Radway suffered a broken left fibula and tibia in Thursday's game. He will undergo surgery Friday to have a rod inserted to stabilize the bones.
Radway, who suffered the injury with only three seconds left in the game while leaping for a pass in the end zone, was fighting for a roster spot.
"He was legitimately in the mix, very much in the mix," Jerry Jones said. "... It's really a shame that that happened. His career, from a practical standpoint, is not over, but what a disappointment for him."
Said quarterback Stephen McGee: "That's just a tough thing to see. I cried on the inside for him. That's just a difficult thing to accept, but he'll be back."
