Ranking the Cowboys at midway point
We're at the midway point of the Dallas Cowboys' season as we rank the top 53 players on the roster based on the campaign they're having, potential and expectations.
The Cowboys are 4-4 heading into the heart of November and there are some winnable games on the schedule. It's unknown if some key players can continue to have a good season and if some underachieving players will improve their play.
2011 Cowboys 53-Man Roster Player Rankings
Sean Lee leads the team in tackles, tackles for loss, fumble recoveries and interceptions. He's been the Cowboys' second best player but not the most valuable. That would go to DeMarcus Ware (left), who remains a force despite regularly getting double-teamed. The past three weeks have pushed DeMarco Murray into the top 10 and he could stay there if he continues to improve.
The presence of Abram Elam has solidified the secondary, but Orlando Scandrick (left) and Jason Hatcher have played well this season when not injured. Dan Bailey has made 19 consecutive field goals and his kickoffs are solid. He's got six touchbacks and the average opponent starting field position is at the 22.3. Gerald Sensabaugh has been solid this season and against the pass and run.
Anthony Spencer's stock dropped since his three sacks and four quarterback pressures the first three weeks of the season. Bradie James and Keith Brooking (left) have struggled this season. The play of Laurent Robinson, who has two touchdown receptions and two 100-yard games this season, has made up for the poor play of Kevin Ogletree. Frank Walker and Robinson have been solid free-agent pickups.
Danny McCray is a solid special teams player. Alan Ball (left) is much better than last season now that he's at his normal cornerback position. Expect to see more of Bruce Carter in the coming weeks. You can already tell he's going to be pretty good. Martellus Bennett and Phil Costa have had a disappointing first half.
The Cowboys value Derrick Dockery as a veteran guard and Phillip Tanner has shown some signs that he has a future with the Cowboys. Jesse Holley (left) won a game for the Cowboys but can't get on the field on a consistent basis. It's disappointing to see David Arkin, a fourth-round pick, at the bottom of this list, but he's just not ready to play yet.
