Mike Jenkins arrives at camp
ESPNDallas.com Live: Mike Jenkins update
Mike Jenkins will report to mincamp. What will his attitude be in camp? Calvin Watkins and Tim MacMahon discuss.
Jenkins, in the final year of his contract, hasn't attended any voluntary workouts due to concerns over his role with the team.
In the offseason, the Cowboys signed veteran cornerback Brandon Carr to a five-year, $50.1 million deal and moved up to the No. 6 spot in the NFL draft to select LSU's Morris Claiborne, considered the top corner in the draft.
The Cowboys shopped Jenkins briefly during the draft but wanted something significant for him, according to sources. Jenkins also sought a trade, sources said, but Cowboys officials have insisted they won't deal him.
Even though he'll be at Valley Ranch, Jenkins is not expected to work out over the next three days because he's still recovering from shoulder surgery. However, Jenkins will need the time to get familiar with a defensive scheme that defensive coordinator Rob Ryan is re-teaching the team.
Jenkins, who mainly works outside the hash marks, will have to learn some of the inner workings of the slot position given the additions of Carr and Claiborne.
"He's got a whole new world to learn there," Ryan said last week of Jenkins' move to the slot. "We're going to move him in there to compete."
