NFL32OT: Challenges Continue For Cowboys

OXNARD, Calif. -- Running back Felix Jones was one of three Dallas Cowboys who has not been cleared to practice after failing the team's conditioning test at the beginning of training camp.

Safety Brodney Pool and receiver Andre Holmes, both of whom are expected to compete for key roles, also flunked the test.

"None of those guys passed the conditioning test yesterday," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "We're going to have them condition with (strength coach Mike Woicik) during the walkthroughs and during the practice until they prove to us that they're ready to practice the way we need to practice."

The team requires running backs, receivers and defensive backs to run two sets of 10 60-yard sprints. The players have to finish each sprint in less than eight seconds.

"Obviously I should have worked harder," said Holmes, an undrafted second-year player who owner/general manager Jerry Jones raved about this offseason. "I missed the last two sprints. Now we're just going to basically get ready to take the test again tomorrow.

"I've got to put it to bed. I'm going to have a chance to get back on the field and prove myself. That's basically what I'm going to do. That's where my mindset is."

Jones, a former first-round pick who is entering the final season of his contract, is expected to back up DeMarco Murray.

The Cowboys signed Pool to a one-year, $1.1 million contract to compete with Barry Church and fourth-round pick Matt Johnson for the starting job in free agency. Pool's deal included only $100,000 in guaranteed money, so the Cowboys could opt to release him if he doesn't earn the starting role.
