Eriksson signs to stay with Stars

Loui Eriksson has signed a six-year, $25.5 million contract extension that will keep him with the Dallas Stars through the 2015-16 season.

Eriksson, the 24-year-old left wing who scored 36 goals last season, had a contract which would have expired at the end of the season.

"I think we're looking to build a core group of players that we feel very strongly about," Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk told ESPNDallas.com's Richard Durrett. "Stephane Robidas is one of those guys, and Loui is as well. They exemplify leadership, work ethic and they are talented players too."

The Stars signed Robidas on Thursday to a four-year extension worth $13.2 million -- bringing the team's 24-hour spending spree to $38.7 million.

Eriksson's 36 goals was the most for a Dallas player since Brett Hull scored 39 in 2000-01.

"He just goes about his business," Nieuwendyk said. "The thing about that type of player is the maintenance is low. They come in every day, do their jobs, make smart decision and never complain."
