Stars' Steve Ott (hip) out against Avs

FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Stars forward Steve Ott will not play in Friday's home game against the Colorado Avalanche because of a hip injury and could also miss the first game of an upcoming road trip.

"He won't be ready for us tomorrow," Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said after Thursday's practice. "He's got a bit of a hip pointer. It's bruising out now, so that's a good thing. We can see it. I don't think he'll be a guy for Sunday [at Carolina], but that Tuesday game in Washington isn't out of sight for us now. We just want to make sure he is ready."

Ott suffered the injury in last Thursday's 5-3 loss against the Los Angeles Kings. He finished that game and then played through the injury in Saturday's 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Defenseman Nicklas Grossman, who suffered a cut to the cheek from a skate in Saturday's game, switched from the full cage to a half-shield for Thursday's practice. Grossman said the clear shield worked better for him.
