The Dallas Stars placed center Steve Ott on injured reserve Thursday, a move made to open a roster spot in case Brenden Morrow can't skate Friday at Pittsburgh.

Morrow missed Thursday's practice with an elbow injury.

The move was made retroactive to Oct. 29, meaning Ott (hip pointer) could be activated as soon as Friday. However, the Stars already have said Ott, who isn't on the current road trip, would be out at least through Saturday's game at Detroit.

Morrow, a left wing, has two goals and five assists in 14 games for the Stars, who have an NHL-best 11-3 record and a four-game winning streak.

Ott has two goals and six assists in 11 games.
