Goligoski, who has five goals and 10 assists this season, will be under contract with the Stars through the 2015-16 season.
"It's really exciting," Goligoski said. "Four years in a place that I love. We've got a good group of guys here. Since the second I got here I've felt really comfortable and liked it a lot."
The 26-year-old would have been a restricted free agent at the end of this season. The new deal will pay him $4.2 million next season, $4.6 million in the second year and $4.8 million in each of the last two years of the contract.
""I think the key is we view Alex Goligoski as one of our core players. I think the philosophy of our organization is to identify our core players and make sure they are long-term Dallas Stars," general manager Joe Nieuwendyk said. "He's a great person. He's well-respected in the locker room and he's a big part of our team with the minutes he plays and the style of game that he plays. I think it is important to our success."
Goligoski is in his fourth NHL season and his second with the Stars. He has played in 236 career games, scoring 33 goals and 87 assists for 120 points and a plus-28. He has logged over 20 minutes of ice-time in 54 of his 59 contests as a member of the Stars since coming to the team via a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season.
"We're very pleased that we were able to sign Alex to this extension," new Stars owner Tom Gaglardi said. "We are committed to building a winner here in Dallas and that starts with re-signing your key players and maintaining a solid foundation for your roster."
