Pro boxing gets its first shot at UT-Arlington's new College Park Center tonight when ESPN's "Friday Night Fights" heads to campus.
A junior welterweight bout between Mike Dallas Jr. (17-2-1) of Bakersfield, Calif., and Miguel Gonzalez (20-5) of Cleveland headlines the event. Dallas is coming off a loss to Mauricio Herrera in June, while Gonzalez scored a two-round knockout over Humberto Toledo in October.
Before the main event, Los Angeles' Shawn Estrada, a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, fights Terrance Wood of Bay City, Texas, in a scheduled eight-round light heavyweight bout.
The undercard features Duncanville, Texas, native and 2008 Olympian Luis Yanez, who takes on St. Louis' Jamal Parram in a six-round bantamweight fight. Other Dallas-Fort Worth fighters on the card include bantamweight Ray Ximenez of Dallas and junior welterweight Matt Patton of Denton, who is making his pro debut.
Also included in the card are two bouts comprised exclusively of area fighters. Junior lightweight Jose Rodriguez of Dallas challenges Fort Worth's Alex Lopez in a four-round bout. Arlington's Angel Sigala and Fort Worth's Corey Washington face off in a four-round middleweight event.
The fights begin at 7 p.m. Friday, with the live ESPN2 broadcast starting at 8 p.m..
Tickets start at $25, available at the College Park Center box office, online at UTAtickets.com or by phone at 817-272-9595.
