FC Dallas 99 Central was able to reach the playoffs in the Disney Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament despite a 3-0 loss to Plant City FC Premier (Fla.) on Wednesday.
After a scoreless first half, Plant City got on the board in the 44th minute on a penalty kick. FC Dallas goalkeeper Jared John landed awkwardly on a Plant City player as they were both going for the ball, resulting in the penalty. The game had to be suspended for approximately 20 minutes as the Plant City player was attended to and later transported from the field with a broken arm.
Plant City struck again in the 51st and 53rd minute to take control of the game.
FC Dallas came into the day first in its division (Plant City was second) and needing a win or tie to assure a playoff spot. Goal differential ended up being the difference, allowing them to move on.
FC Dallas will play Grand FC Mustangs (Ill.) on Friday at 1 p.m. CST in the semifinals in the Silver bracket. If they win, they will advance to the Silver finals on Saturday at 8 a.m. CST. A loss would eliminate FC Dallas from competition.
