All-Solid Gold Team Baby!

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Dec. 28, 2005

As we move closer to the finish of the second month of the season, and with conference play right around the corner, it is time to look at the creme de la creme so far.

Here are my award winners for the preconference schedule:

First off, my All-Solid Gold team:
I start with J.J. Redick at shooting guard. He put on quite a show, scoring 41 points in the rout of then-No. 2 Texas.

At forward is Gonzaga's Adam Morrison, who has been a highlight reel for Mark Few's squad. He scored 43 points in the game of the year so far, the triple-overtime thriller in Maui against Michigan State. He also hit the amazing winning shot against Oklahoma State.

Redick and Morrison share my preconference PTPer award. Let them fight it out for postseason honors, baby!

In the middle is Duke's Shelden Williams. He has been a workhorse all season, shining on both ends of the court.

On the wing is Villanova's Randy Foye. Jay Wright's team often utilizes four guards since Curtis Sumpter is sidelined following knee surgery.

At the point is UCLA's Jordan Farmar, a composed super soph who runs Ben Howland's offense smoothly.

My sixth man is Michigan State's Maurice Ager. He had a super game in the loss to Gonzaga, scoring 36 points despite playing in foul trouble.

My preconference coach of the year is Florida's Billy Donovan. He lost a lot of firepower when Anthony Roberson, Matt Walsh and David Lee left Gainesville. The sophomore-dominated Gators have been one of the great early-season stories.

As for the early-season diaper dandy, I'm going with North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough. He's averaging around 16 points and seven rebounds for the Tar Heels. I believe North Carolina will make a run at the NCAA tournament and Hansbrough is one of the key reasons why.
