This and that

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Each week I will write about the world of sports.

  • In a one-game scenario where it is win or go home a season can end so quickly. Go ask North Carolina's men and Connecticut's women.

  • Roy Williams and Geno Auriemma had the favorites in their respective tourneys, but fell short of the winner's circle. My friends these teams had great seasons. Now it is Memphis vs Kansas on monday and Stanford vs Tennessee on Tuesday. Rose and Douglas-Roberts against Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk and Parker vs Wiggins.

  • I hear people talk about coaches feeling pressure at the Final Four. These guys have prepared their teams well. Pressure is when you are 15-15 and sweating to see if you keep your job.

  • Congrats to Serena Williams and Lorena Ochoa. Serena won the event in Florida while Ochoa dominated at the Kraft Nabisco an LPGA major.

  • The NHL playoffs are getting underway and that is truly the most exciting time of the season.

  • The Tigers are off to a slow start at 0-6. I know Detroit spent a lot of money but it is too early for anybody to panic. Jim Leyland's team is too talented to struggle for long.

  • Chris Henry of the Bengals finally ran out of chances after a recent arrest. Players have to be held accountable for their actions. Henry has talent but after repeatedly making mistakes the bengals had no choice.

Dick Vitale coached the Pistons and the University of Detroit before broadcasting ESPN's first college basketball game in December 1979. Send him a question for possible use on ESPNEWS.
